Wedgwood Black Basalt Teapot with Widow Finial

Posted Wednesday, August 31 by CAG

Chris brought this Wedgwood black basalt teapot to the Roselle MuseumFest for appraisal. She had done her own research, and knew a lot about it, but not the price.
It is absolutely amazing that a piece like this could survive since the 1790's in such beautiful condition. It is in perfect condition. There is a photo of her teapot on a very good website about Antique British Ceramics. There is also much more detailed information about Wedgwood black basalt.

Further research turned up two prices for similar, but not identical, teapots from the same time period. Both prices were in the $700 range, which seems like quite a bargain for something this old and this beautiful.
