Wave Crest Plaque

Posted Wednesday, April 26 by Brian

Hello, I was wondering if you could help me identify this plaque that I have had for many many years. I have always thought it could possibly be wavecrest but no one has ever been able to tell me anything about it. It is framed in a metal frame. The plaque measures 11 inches across 10 inches from top to bottom. It has cardboard back. and 2 hooks on frame for hanging. There are no marks. Thanks in advance for anything you could tell me.

When I first looked at the photo, it was obvious why you thought it may be Wave Crest, but I had never seen a Wave Crest plaque. I looked through an old Wave Crest book that I've had for over 25 years and did not see any plaques. Later, as I was putting the book away, I saw a plaque on the back cover of the book.

Not all Wave Crest is marked. Some pieces were marked with paper labels that have long since vanished. Everything about your piece screams Wave Crest. The C.F. Monroe Company made several lines of glassware including Wave Crest, Nakara and Kelva. The differences between the three lines are pretty subtle.

Regarding value (brace yourself), I only found two price references that were relatively current. One with flowers sold on Ebay in January for roughly $3,250 and I found an auction estimate (but no actual price realized) of $4,000 to $6,000 for another. They were both larger (approx. 12x16), but yours is a scenic, which is generally more desireable. I think yours would likely be in the $4,000 neighborhood.
