Follow Up on Prestini Bowl

Posted Wednesday, May 10 by Brian

Back in early March, I was contacted by Jeannie of House in Progress about some iems that had been left in the house that they bought to rehab. One of the items was a wooden bowl by James Prestini.

In that post, I estimated the value at $2,000 to $4,000 based on the photos and her recollection (it was packed away)
of the size.

After unpacking the bowl she realized she had confused the size with another bowl, and the Prestini bowl in question was much smaller, about half the size. Because size was one of the factors that affects value I lowered my estimate to between $1,000 and $2,000.

After more research, I recommended that it be sold at auction through the John Toomey Gallery in Oak Park (there is a link on our Resources page). The auction was held on Sunday, and the Prestini bowl sold for $1,800, at the high end of the auction house's $1,500-$1,800 estimate. Not bad, not bad at all.
